Mentor Program

A mentor is a person who is able to combine the diverse elements of a friend, teacher, counselor, and professional all in one. Both a source of information and experience, a mentor’s jobs is to promote learning, change, and growth, as well as facilitate the student’s entrance into the professional world and guide them through the beginning of this turbulent period. Not only can a mentor provide you with advice and serve as an objective sounding board to your thoughts and concerns, but may also be your entrance into a network, an introduction to people you should know, or an indicator of practices you should try.

NYSAEYC sees the need for young professionals especially to have a mentor who will help orient, initiate, and advise them. It is a one on one relationship that for some may happen naturally, while others may need some assistance to arrange one. For those students in need, NYSAEYC is exploring ways to assist in the matching of emerging professionals with experienced, wise veterans who could act as mentors. If you have ideas, are in need of a mentor, or want to be a mentor, respond to this website and help us establish this service for members.

Being a mentor is a rewarding endeavor for which there is the payback of satisfaction in seeing development in the protégé, making a lasting contribution to the field and reaching the self-actualization stage in one's professional life.
